UW Graduate School Distinguished Dissertation/Thesis Awards & WAGS/UMI Outstanding Innovation in Technology Award

The Graduate School is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the following 2016 awards:

  • Distinguished Dissertation Awards,
  • Distinguished Thesis Awards and
  • WAGS/UMI Innovation in Technology Award.

2016 Graduate School Distinguished Dissertation Awards

The Graduate School is pleased to announce the 2016 Distinguished Dissertation Awards competition in the following four categories: Biological Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering. These awards recognize outstanding and exceptional scholarship and research at the doctoral level. Each department may submit only one nomination per category. The nomination must be submitted by the department chair or graduate program coordinator.

Each recipient will receive an honorarium of $1,000 and will be publicly recognized by the Graduate School. Additionally, when the awardees’ dissertations fall within the current year’s fields of competition for the Council of Graduate Schools/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award, they will be submitted as the UW’s institutional nominations for this prestigious recognition. NB: The fields of competition for 2016 are “Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Engineering” and “Social Sciences.”

Graduate School Distinguished Thesis Award 2016

The Graduate School is pleased to announce the 2016 Distinguished Master’s Thesis Awards competition in the following categories: Biological Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering.This award recognizes outstanding and exceptional research and writing produced by UW master’s students in any discipline. Each department may submit only one nomination per category; nominations must be accompanied by a cover letter from the department chair or graduate program coordinator.

The Graduate School will nominate the winner of this award to the Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS)/University Microfilms International (UMI) Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award competitions (http://www.wagsonline.org/thesis-award.html, or see attachments). Additionally, the UW nominee will receive $500 and will be publicly recognized by the Graduate School.

2016 WAGS/UMI Innovation in Technology Award

The Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS) and University Microfilms International (UMI) are pleased to announce the 2016 WAGS/UMI Outstanding Innovation in Technology award. This $1,500 award may be given either to a master’s thesis or to a doctoral dissertation for the development of an innovative technology and its utilization for the creative solution of a major problem. Each department may submit only one nomination. Nominations must be submitted by the department chair or graduate program coordinator. The UW Graduate School, in turn, will submit one nomination to the Western Association of Graduate Schools.
