Tillman Military Scholars Program

The mission of the Pat Tillman Foundation is to invest in active and veteran military servicemembers and their spouses through educational scholarships; building a diverse community of leaders committed to service to others. This is accomplished with the Tillman Military Scholars (TMS) program which purpose is to identify high-impact active or veteran servicemembers and their spouses and invest in their higher education, covering the needs left unpaid for by the GI Bill and other government support. The scholarship funds awarded are just a portion of the TMS experience which also focuses on guiding an engaged community and providing essential resources that empower Scholars to serve and lead in their local communities and ease the transition from military to civilian life.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Veteran and active-duty military service members
  • Honorably discharged of pre- and/or post-9/11 service from all branches of the U.S. Military, including the National Guard and Reserve
  • Current spouses of veterans or active-duty service members, including surviving spouses
  • Military veterans or spouses pursuing a degree as a full-time* student at a public or private, U.S.-based accredited institution of higher education:
    • Undergraduate Bachelor’s degree
    • Graduate or professional degree

Applicants will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Record of personal achievement
  • Academic and career ambitions
  • Demonstration of service to others in the community
  • Desire to continue to serve others and make a positive impact on your community
  • Leadership potential
  • Compelling, thoughtful, genuine and thorough essay question responses
  • Record of military service and/or community impact as a military spouse
