The Office of Research Information Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Graduate Staff Assistant to document and support strategic plans and initiatives created by the Director and Associate Directors for the Office of Research Information Services (ORIS).

The Office of Research Information Services (ORIS) is a unique business value delivery team within University of Washington’s Office of Research. ORIS designs, develops, integrates and manages electronic business solutions that help to reduce administrative burden to researchers and improve research productivity. ORIS’ Vision is to leverage technology, data, information and collaboration in an innovative environment to support unmatched research capabilities at the University of Washington, while furthering the research enterprise through national partnerships.

The Office of Research Information Services has an opportunity for a UW graduate student that has education and/or experience in the area of organizational strategy to serve as a Graduate Staff Assistant for the 2015/2016 academic year starting in September. As directed by the Director and the Associate Directors, the Graduate Staff Assistant will carry out tasks to support key organizational initiatives that support the long term strategy in ORIS.

Duties Include:

  • Create documentation of initiatives and plans supporting ORIS which have been developed by ORIS leadership
  • Manage a list of strategic concepts, plans, and strategies generated by the Director and Associate Directors in ORIS
  • Organize notes and artifacts from meetings, retreats, and other materials to produce documentation of current and desired state of the organization


  • Currently registered UW Graduate Student in good standing and eligibility to hold a Graduate Student Assistantship
  • Ability to distill information and documentation, with an emphasis in business writing
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to organize and assemble information from a variety of sources
  • Proficient with Microsoft office and Google Drive/Docs
  • Capable of working independently
  • Reliable

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.


  • Pursuing a MBA or MPA degree with an emphasis in business strategy or organizational development
  • Experience writing and formatting concise issue summaries
  • Experience writing executive summaries
  • Experience conducting current to future state analysis, with emphasis on organizational change

Conditions of Employment:

Candidates are hired through graduate appointments; applicants must therefore be enrolled at the UW and be in good standing with ten credits or more of graduate coursework during each of autumn, winter, and spring quarters. Applicants in state-funded programs will be eligible for the standard tuition waiver if these conditions are met. Applicants in fee-based programs are eligible for quarterly payments towards their course fees that are equivalent to Graduate Tier 1 resident full-time tuition. Applicants must also be able to work 20 hours from Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 5pm. The appointment carries a stipend, tuition waiver, and health benefits.
