Basic Function: Serve as the Teaching Assistant for EDSPE 564 Instructional Strategies for Infants and Toddlers.

General Information: This individual will serve as the Teaching Assistant for a graduate class that is required of students in the masters degree program in Early Childhood Special Education.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: Locate and prepare course materials; develop and manage the course website; teach selected class sessions and/or lead discussion groups; arrange community visits; assist with grading.

Must be a UW graduate student enrolled in 10 credits per quarter of employment. In general preference will be given to applicants in each category who exhibit the following qualifications, as evidenced in their letter of application, transcripts of past coursework and prior work experiences.

Education: Minimum of a masters degree in early childhood special education or related field.

Work Experience: The position requires knowledge or experience with infants, toddlers and families, and early intervention services.

Other preferred attributes to be assessed during the application/ interview process include: knowledge of the field, organizational skills, experience managing website and other course tools.

Specific Qualifications and Responsibilities: Prior experience in Part C early intervention, Early Head Start or other services for infants, toddlers and
families strongly preferred.

Responsibilities: Locate and prepare course materials (e.g., ppts, video, learning activities); develop and manage the course website; teach and/lead discussion groups depending on experience; assist with grading.

Salary: Salary and benefits are competitive. Salary is commensurate with academic standing, qualifications, and experience.

Biology typically hires between one and eight non-Biology TAs every quarter, depending on commitments to Biology graduate students. TAs may be required to lead labs or quiz sections at lower division or upper division levels. Courses are offered in: Introductory Biology; Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology; Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology; Plant Biology; and Physiology.

Satisfactory grades in one or more upper division courses in the appropriate field.

Condition of Employment: Must be able to participate for the entire duration of the course.
