THE FELLOWSHIPS: The American Research Institute in Turkey will offer ARIT fellowships for research in Turkey for the academic year 2012-2013. Grants for tenures up to one year will be considered, however, some preference is given to projects of shorter duration. Stipends generally range from $4,000 to $16,000. ARIT operates hostel, research, and study facilities for researchers in Turkey at its branch centers in Istanbul and Ankara.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Scholars and advanced graduate students engaged in research on ancient, medieval, or modern times in Turkey, in any field of the humanities and social sciences, are eligible. Student applicants must have fulfilled all requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation by June 2012, and before beginning any ARIT-sponsored research. Non-U.S. applicants who reside in the U.S. or Canada are expected to maintain an affiliation with an educational institution in the U.S. or Canada. Scholars who have completed their formal training may also apply for ARIT fellowships sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
