The American Academy of Arts & Sciences, an international learned society located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, invites applications for its Visiting Scholars Program for the 2012-2013 academic year. The program serves untenured junior faculty and postdoctoral students interested in pursuing research related to one of the Academy‚s four core program areas: Humanities and Culture; Education and Social Policy; Global Security and Energy; and Science, Engineering, and Technology. Projects that address American cultural, social or political issues from the founding period to the present are welcome, as are studies on the history of science, technology, and medicine in America.
The Academy offers scholars the opportunity to combine independent research and writing with active involvement in its programs and activities. Visiting Scholars are invited to participate in Academy-sponsored conferences, seminars and informal gatherings. They also benefit from institutional partnerships with local universities, libraries, and research centers in the Boston area.
The stipend is $40,000 for postdoctoral scholars and up to $60,000 for junior faculty (not to exceed one half of salary). The postmark deadline for applications is October 15, 2011.
